Mutrah

Mutrah is a small city located in the Muscat province of Oman. Before the discovery of oil, Mutrah was the center of commerce in Oman. It is still a center of commerce as one of largest sea ports of the region is located there. Other land marks include Souq Mutrah, a traditional bazar and Sour Al-Lawatiah, a small community of houses surrounded by an old wall. On both sides of the old city rises a clay fort built by the Portuguese when they invaded Oman in the 16th century. They are called Al-jalalee and Al-meerani.
