Mustaf? K?mil Pasha (August 14, 1874, Cairo, Egypt – February 10, 1908, Cairo) was an nationalist whom tried to push Egypt towards self rule. To this end he founded the newspaper Al-Liwa' (?The Standard?) in 1900 as a platform for his views and utilized his skill as both a journalist and lawyer. After courting the French failed with their signing of the Entente Cordiale with Britain he began to look to the Ottoman Empire as a means toward independence. Right before his death in October 1907 he founded National Party (al-Hizb al-Watani).
