Mount Vernon, Ohio
Mount Vernon is a city located in Knox County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 14,375. It is the county seat of Knox County{{GR|6}}.
Local History
Birthplace of Daniel Decatur Emmett, author of "Dixie". Located in downtown Mount Vernon is The Woodward Opera House, oldest Pre-Civil War theater in the United States. Theater is currently under major renovation. Completion date sometime in 2006. Also in Mount Vernon is the Knox County Historical Society with a building and extensive exhibits on Harcourt Road in Mount Vernon. Exhibits include Daniel Decatur Emmett, Paul Lynde (buried in nearby Amity) and The Cooper Company. See also Local History on AboutKnox.Com
