Mount Nirvana is the unofficial name of the highest mountain in the Northwest Territories. It was first climbed in July 1965 by Bill Buckingham and Lew Surdam. Many fans of the American rock band Nirvana make a pilgrimage to the mountain every April 4; this is the anniversary of the death of the band's front man Kurt Cobain.
