Mosque of Abraham massacre
The Mosque of Abraham massacre occurred on February 25th, 1994, during the month of Ramadan. The Jewish holiday of Purim, which goes according to the Hebrew Calendar, also happened to fall on that day. The mosque is located in the southern West Bank city of Hebron, populated mostly by Palestinians. It is known to Muslims as the Ibrahimi Mosque, and to Jews as the Cave of the Patriarchs, the second holiest site in Judaism; it also holds considerable theological significance to Christians. The area in the cave is divided in two, with Jews allocated 706.75 square meters, and Muslims allocated 3,073.45 square meters. Every year over 300 thousand people visit the site.
