Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola
Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (often referred to as M. K. O. Abiola) (born August 24, 1937?) in Abeokuta, was a Nigerian Yorùbá businessman and political figure. He served as the president-elect of Nigeria in 1993 before the election was annulled by Ibrahim Babangida. Abiola died in captivity of a heart attack on July 7, 1998.It is however believed by many pro-democratic Nigerians that the death of Abiola immediately following that of his captor-the late dictator Sani Abacha was masterminded by the conservative cabal comprising the then ruling military government, some military apologists and the northern political forces with the help of their southern collaborators and beneficiaries in order to set in motion a political machinery that will eventually restore power to the north.
