The name comes from the Romanian Vlach shepherds migrants that advanced along the Carpathians range between the 15th and 17th centuries. On their way they gradualy lost their original language with exception of some Romanian words they use in their Czech dialect, but they preserved more of their culture (especially folklore, songs and costumes) and economical customs, namely sheep breeding.
