Mock Strawberry
The Mock Strawberry (Potentilla indica, syn. Duchesnea indica), also known as the Indian Strawberry, is not, as its name implies, a true strawberry. It is native to eastern and southern Asia. Like the Barren Strawberry, it is a species of Potentilla which is often confused with the Wild Strawberry. It is however readily distinguished by its yellow flowers; all naturally occurring true strawberries have flowers which are white or slightly pink.

It was previously usually treated in the genus Duchesnea, but recent genetic evidence has shown that this genus is better included within Potentilla.

The Mock Strawberry has been introduced to many other areas as an ornamental plant, though it is considered a noxious weed in some regions. Its berries are edible, but have no flavour.
