The series is set in UC 0153, and succeeds the Federation and Crossbone Vanguard conflict of Gundam F-91. Therefore, it takes place well after the events of the Earth Federation versus Principality of Zeon conflict (which could be said to have ended with Char's Counterattack).

The greatly weakened Earth Federation comes under attack by the spaceborn Zanscare Empire; only the AEUG-like League Militaire stands in their way. The mass-produced Victory Gundam is the Earth Federation's secret weapon.

Notable attributes of Mobile Suit Victory Gundam:

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

  • It features the youngest protagonist of any Gundam anime: the thirteen year old Uso Evin
  • After many years of being a little more forgiving to his cast, Tomino arguably returns to his "Kill 'em all" roots with Victory. The main cast casualty rate of the League Militaire(especially the Shrike Team), as well as the Zanscare is extremely high.
  • It's the longest Gundam television show with 51 episodes.
  • It is the first of four Gundam television series that aired in Japan sequentially from 1993 through 1996.
  • Like Zeta Gundam, V Gundam was made during Tomino Yoshiyuki's bout with depression, and the series is dark and morose. Tomino has since recovered and hates V Gundam so much that one of the Extras Features on its DVDs is a video of Tomino telling you not to buy it.
  • Mobile Suit Victory Gundam was followed by G-Saviour in the Gundam series timeline however the Live-Action Film was officially dropped from canon after negative fanbase reactions.
