Mitochondrial myopathy is typically caused by defects in part of the mitochondrion (the main energy source for a cell) known as the "respiratory chain." The condition causes a sufferer to feel easily fatigued. Symptoms include muscle weakness or cramps, seizures, deafness, food reflux, paralysis of eye muscles, diabetes and cardiac problems. The severity can vary from life-threatening to barely noticeable.
