Mindfuck means either a thing that messes with the minds of those exposed to it or the act of doing so.

The scope of the word is broad. For a few examples, a horror movie that has the viewer jumping at shadows afterwards is a mindfuck. So is the Illuminatus! book trilogy, which blends true information with imaginative fiction until the reader doesn't know which is which. (One plot strand in the Illuminatus! books themselves is "Operation Mindfuck", a plot to spread alarm and confusion). So is the largest plot twist of Fight Club, which comes out of the blue and turns the whole setting on its head. Several of the works of Philip K. Dick, most notably A Scanner Darkly and Ubik, also question the whole nature of reality and identity, and can have a lasting effect on their readers.
