Milt Gabler

Milt Gabler (20 May 1911 - 20 July 2001) was a noted American record producer.

Born in Harlem, New York to Jewish Austrian immigants. At 15, he began working in his father's business, the Commodore Radio Corporation, a radio shop located on East 42nd Street in New York City.

By the mid-1930s, Gabler renamed the business the Commodore Music Shop and began specializing in Jazz music. In the early 1940s Gabler began a record label Commodore Records. Gabler soon became a record producer for Decca Records.

Gabler is best known for producing the 1954 Bill Haley classic, "Rock Around the Clock". However Gabler's career stretched far beyond this one classic, as he produced artists ranging from Louis Jordan to Billie Holliday to Mae West over the years. Gabler also had a number of songwriting credits to his name, including the Jordan classic "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie".
