Mikhail Speransky
Count Mikhail Mikhailovich Speransky (January 1 (O.S.), 1772 - April 11 (O.S.), 1839) was probably the greatest of Russian reformers in the period between Peter the Great and Alexander the Liberator. A close advisor to Tsar Alexander I of Russia, he is sometimes called the father of Russian liberalism.
