Mike Logan
Detective Michael "Mike" Logan, played by Chris Noth, is a fictional character on the television drama '. Logan initially appeared on Law & Order from the show's first season in 1990 to Noth's dismissal from the series in 1995. The character was added to the spinoff ' during the first episode of season five, "Grow", which originally aired on September 25, 2005. His partner is Carolyn Barak.

Logan was a homicide detective in the 27th Precinct in Manhattan.

Born into a working class Irish Catholic family, Logan had a dysfunctional childhood rife with abuse, both physical (from his mentally unstable, alcoholic mother) and sexual (from his parish priest, whom he confronted and brought to justice years later.) When he was a young man, his pregnant girlfriend had an abortion against his wishes.

He spent many years repressing these traumas, hiding behind a cocky, chauvinistic facade which he rarely let slip. His repressed anger would occasionally explode, however, especially when he was confronted with a particularly brutal crime; when his first partner, Max Greevey, was murdered by a suspect in 1991, for example, he came very close to killing the perpetrator, relenting only at the last minute and nearly losing his job over it.

His second partner, Phil Cerreta (played by Paul Sorvino), was also shot in the line of duty, but survived and took on a desk job.

Logan's closest professional relationships were with Don Cragen (played by Dann Florek) and Lennie Briscoe (played by Jerry Orbach), who functioned as friends, mentors, and father figures in his life. Logan also had a close relationship with Dr. Elizabeth Olivet (played by Carolyn McCormick), who helped him cope with Greevey's death.

Logan was transferred from Manhattan Homicide to the Domestic Dispute Department in Staten Island in 1995 for publicly punching a homophobic politician who had murdered a gay man he had gradually come to see as a human being. He was replaced by Rey Curtis (played by Benjamin Bratt.)

The Logan character was revived in 1998 and given his own TV movie, ', in which Logan tries to get his old job back by solving the murder of a prostitute, in the process discovering that his old friend, Detective Tony Profaci, was involved in the crime. Exiled helped mend relations with the L&O fanbase, who were upset to see Logan leave the series in disgrace; the movie allowed Logan to leave with more dignity.
