Midsomer Murders
Midsomer Murders is an ITV television series about murders that take place in the fictional English county of Midsomer. The programme is loosely based on a series of novels featuring Detective Inspector Barnaby by Caroline Graham. Although the body count is remarkably, and unplausibly, high, the two-hour drama series is of the highest quality, attracting well-known guest stars and obtaining impressive viewing figures. The series has been sold to 204 countries all over the world, including the United States, Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Australia, Sweden, France and most recently Germany. Many early episodes were written by Anthony Horowitz, the creator of the series, and current writers include Douglas Watkinson, David Hoskins, Andrew Payne and Peter J Hammond. The show is mostly filmed in the English counties of Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Surrey. John Nettles, of Bergerac fame, plays the lead role of Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby.
