Michigan City is a city located in LaPorte County, Indiana, approximately 50 miles east of Chicago, Illinois and 40 miles west of South Bend, Indiana. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 32,900.

Michigan City is a major stop along the South Shore Line, the United States' last interurban streetcar line. The train runs directly through, and makes a stop in, Michigan City's downtown area.
