Meudon

Meudon is a suburb of Paris in the Hauts-de-Seine département in northern France. Population (1999): 43,663.

Scientific facilities

What is today ONERA, a national research institute on aerospace topics, has been a presence since the military opened its aerostatic (lighter-than-air) field in the Chalais park in 1877. From 1921 to 1981 the Air Museum was located here until it moved to Le Bourget Airport.

There is a branch of the Paris Observatory founded in 1877 on the ruins of the Chateau-Neuf, burned by the Germans in the siege of Paris 1871.
