Meredith Vieira


 

Meredith Vieira (born December 30, 1951) is the host of a network talk show, a syndicated game show, and a cable biography series on American television. She is of Portuguese descent.

Vieira has been the moderator of ABC's The View, since 1997. She introduces the "Hot Topics," guides the conversations, and breaks to the commercials. She stars each show by saying "Hello! And welcome to The View," and ends each episode by saying "Take a little time and enjoy the view!"

She also performs hosting duties for the U.S. syndicated version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, which was a 2002 spin-off of the U.S. broadcast version hosted by Regis Philbin. In 2005, Vieira won a Daytime Emmy Award for "Outstanding Game Show Host."

Vieira was born in East Providence, Rhode Island. She began her career in 1975 as a news announcer for WORC radio in Worcester, Massachusetts, after graduating magna cum laude from Tufts University.
