In computer science, memory hole refers to a block of contiguous available memory. Information about free memory partitions or holes is maintained by the operating system. It can also reffer to an area of physical address space with no actual memory for example the hole between 640K and 1M on pcs with 286 and above processors where memory mapped devices (most notable video ram) were located. Some pcs also had such a hole at 16MB.
