Melville, New York
Melville is a hamlet and census-designated place in the town of Huntington in Suffolk County on Long Island, New York, roughly half way between Manhattan and The Hamptons. The hamlet is home to the US headquarters of many national and international corporations, including Gentiva Health Services, Nikon and Olympus. These headquarters and many other corporate and industrial centers are found on or near Route 110, which runs north to south through Huntington, Melville, and down to Amityville. As of the 2000 census, the census-designated place (CDP) of Melville had a total population of 14,533.

The hamlet's former name, Sweet Hollow, was replaced by Melville in school records in 1854. The name Melville was selected in honor of Herman Melville.

Long Island's tallest point is Jayne's Hill near Melville, with an elevation of 400.9 feet (122.2 m) above sea level.
