Melodic black metal

Melodic black metal is black metal with more keyboards and orchestral pieces than long guitar solos. It may also have more lyrics. Two prominent modern examples of melodic black metal bands are Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir. However, the bands listed tend to be quite a bit more mainstream to a point of defeating the meaning of the genre black metal. An excellent example of a black metal band is Dawn or Woods of Ypres. Catamenia is another example of this genre. This genre draws routes from Black Metal Melodic Death Metal and occasionally Doom Metal

Melodic black metal often can be confused with Norwegian Gothic Metal and there are some bands that are classified as both (Cradle of Filth or Summoning for instance).
