Melodeon
The terms melodeon and melodion can refer to any of several related musical instruments of the free reed aerophone family:
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
- A type of 19th century reed organ with a foot-operated vacuum bellows, and a piano keyboard. It differs from the related harmonium that uses a pressure bellows.
- A diatonic button accordion with one or more rows of melody buttons. (This term for diatonic accordion is used only in Great Britain, Ireland & France.) See the entry under accordion.
- Melodion is a brand of melodica produced by Suzuki.
- A type of barrel organ, sometimes called a Viennese reed organ.
