With the launches of ESPN2 and the ESPN.com, Kiper has become more and more visible, and has made the NFL draft, a weekend event in the spring, a year-round event.

In 1994, then-Indianapolis Colts general manager Bill Tobin once commented, "Who the hell is Mel Kiper? My mailman knows more about the draft than he does." Kiper had critized the Colts' choice of Trev Alberts over Trent Dilfer in that year's NFL entry draft. Ironically, Tobin's comment helped Kiper cement his status as the best of the NFL draft analysts.
