Megacity
A megacity is usually defined as a recognized metropolitan area with a total population in excess of 10 million people. Some definitions also set a minimum level for population density (at least 2,000 persons/square km). A megacity is a single metropolitan area or two or more metropolitan areas that converge upon one another, or metroplex. The terms megapolis and megalopolis are sometimes used synonymously with megacity.

In Canada, a megacity can also refer informally to the results of merging a central city with its suburbs to form one large municipality. A Canadian megacity, however, is not necessarily an entirely urban area, as many cities so named have both rural and urban portions, and do not necessarily constitute a large metropolis. This definition is thus close to the metropolitan area concept.
