Maurice Leyland
Morris Leyland (born July 20, 1900 in New Park, Harrogate, Yorkshire, England and died January 1, 1967 in Scotton Banks, Harrogate, Yorkshire) was better known as 'Maurice Leyland'. He was an English cricketer who played 41 test matches and made 2764 runs with a batting average of 46.06 with 9 hundreds and 10 fifties. His highest score was 187. He also took 6 wickets at an average of 97.50 with a best of 3/91. In first-class cricket he played for Yorkshire County Cricket Club and made 686 first-class appearances. He made 33660 runs at an average of 40.50 with a highest score of 263. He made 80 centuries and 154 fifties. He took 466 first-class wickets at an average of 29.31 with a best of 8/63. He was also voted as Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1929.
