Maturity


 
 

In biology, an organism is said to have reached maturity when it has reached a stage at which it could produce offspring. This age varies from individual to individual and from species to species, and can be affected by a variety of environmental factors. This is more precisely known as sexual maturity.


 

Species: In biology, the most commonly used definition of species was first coined by Ernst Mayr. Species are "groups of actually or potentially interbreeding natural populations which are reproductively isolated from other such groups" (however, see other definitions of species below)....

Sexual maturity: Sexual maturity is the stage at which an organism can reproduce. It is sometimes considered synonymous with adulthood, though the two are distinct. In humans, the process of sexually maturing is termed puberty....
