Material Issue
Material Issue was a Chicago rock band in the 1990s. Their trademark was a dense, rich, manic brand of power-pop, and they had a series of minor hits including "Valerie Loves Me", "Renee Remains the Same", "What Girls Want", "Kim the Waitress", and "International Pop Overthrow" (the title track from their first album). Their music revolved heavily around themes of love and heartbreak. The band's lead singer and driving force, Jim Ellison, committed suicide on June 20, 1996. The other members were Ted Ansani (bass) and Mike Zelenko (drums).
