Martinsburg, West Virginia
Martinsburg is a city located in Berkeley County, West Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 14,972. It is the county seat of Berkeley County{{GR|6}}. Martinsburg was founded in 1778 by General Adam Stephen who named it in honor of Colonel Thomas Bryan Martin, a nephew of Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron. It was incorporated by an act of the West Virginia Legislature March 30, 1868.
