The name of the show can be seen as having several meanings. "Law" is the surname of the inspector Sammo Law. However, "Law" also refers to the legal system of which the character is a part. Therefore, "Martial Law" can be explained as the "Kung Fu master Mr. Law", or "Ruled by Kung Fu".
