Marren - The surname of a prominent English and Anglo-Irish family who hold the hereditary title of Earl's of Kensington. Lord Marren is the current holder of such peerage in the British House of Lords. The family was active in the field of English politics since landing at Hastings with William the Conqueror in 1066. They were and still are active players in Irish affairs as Enda Marren is a minister in the current Irish government. The Marren family branched off to Ireland from their ancestral home in Sidmouth, Devon with the Elizabethan settlement of the 16th Century. The Irish branch of the Marren family maintain Dawros in County Sligo as the seat of their estate. They have been a prominent Anglo-Irish Protestant family there active in Legal, Political, Academic and Church of Ireland ecclesiactical affairs.
