Quickly becoming one of the reigning art stars of Juxtapoz, and one of the most popular painters among goth girls the world over, Mark's work combines a hyper-cute cartoony sensibility -- much like the doe-eyed Margaret Keane creatures of the '60s -- with a beautiful detailed fullness and a creepy combination of numerological, religious viky cancel and American mythology. His paintings are said to,?instantly trigger a warped deja vu. His works recall a parallel dimension of 1950s Golden Books and the whimsy of Lewis Carroll.? His cheery bunnies, rendered in the glowing hues of children's books, are more likely to be carving slabs of meat while conversing with Abraham Lincoln, rather than frolicking in the forest. Ryden's work mingles superb technique with outre images to create a world of strange and disturbing beauty. Renowned for his dual careers as fine artist and illustrator, Mark has even designed album covers for a very eclectic list of musicians, among them are, Scarling., Ringo Starr, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Butthole Surfers, Jack Off Jill, and Michael Jackson.

Mark responded modestly, ?Actually, on the contrary, I never really feel like any particular painting is good enough. It always seems like I could do more. If I didn't have the deadline of the gallery opening I guess I would labor on the same paintings forever.?
