Mark Emmert
In 2004 Mark Emmert was chosen as University of Washington's 30th president by The Board of Regents. Former chancellor of Louisiana State University.

Mark Emmert is a University of Washington alumnus. He grew up in Fife near Tacoma and was one of two boys. He married his high school sweetheart DeLaine Smith at the Fife Presbyterian Church. He has two children - Steve, 24, and Jennifer, 18.

Emmert held faculty and administrative positions at the University of Colorado from 1985 to 1992, then spent four years at Montana State University. There he became provost and vice president for academic affairs. In 1995 he moved to the University of Connecticut. In 1999 he left Connecticut for Louisiana State University.
