Margaret Warner


 

Margaret Warner is one of three senior correspondents who join Jim Lehrer on PBS's nightly news program - The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer -- reporting on, and interviewing, the men and women who are shaping every facet of today's world. She also serves as a back-up anchor to Mr. Lehrer.

In addition, Ms. Warner is one of four co-anchors of America Abroad, a new hour-long radio program devoted to foreign affairs aired on 90 public radio stations through PRI, Public Radio International.

She joined The NewsHour in 1993 after an award-winning career in print journalism focusing on foreign affairs and domestic politics. She spent ten years at Newsweek - first as a political and campaign correspondent, then as White House reporter and finally as chief diplomatic correspondent during four tumultuous years that saw the end of the Cold War, the collapse of the Soviet Union and the first Gulf War.

She also appeared regularly on PBS's Washington Week and CNN's The Capital Gang. Previously, she was a reporter for The Wall Street Journal, The San Diego Union and The Concord (N.H.) Monitor.

She has received numerous awards for her work. In 1990, the Overseas Press Club, which encourages ?the highest standards of professional integrity and skill in the reporting of news,? honored Warner with its Best Reporting Award. In September of that year, her diplomatic coverage of the Gulf War earned her the nod for runner-up of the National Press Club?s Edwin M. Hood Award for Diplomatic Reporting

Warner graduated from Yale University with a bachelor?s degree in English. She and her husband, attorney John Reilly, live in Washington, D.C.
