Margaret Keane
Margaret Keane's doe-eyed children are an instantly recognizable form of American kitsch, and often imitated. Originally painted in her husband's name, Walter Keane, Margaret admitted she had painted them for years in the 1960s. Her works while she was living in her husband's shadow were dark and sad, but she has since moved on to painting in a much happier and brighter style.
