Marcantonio Raimondi

Marcantonio Raimondi (c.1480 - c.1534) was an Italian engraver.

After studying in Bologna with the goldsmith and painter Francesco Raibolini, called Francia, Raimondi moved to Venice, where he copied Albrecht Dürer's works (without Dürer's consent, who sued Raimondi). Later, Raimondi founded a successful engraving school in Rome. At some point he focused on works by Raphael and his circle (such as Giulio Romano). Around 1524 Raimondi was briefly imprisoned for making erotic engravings, such as the I Modi set. During the Sack of Rome in 1527 he ransomed himself from the Spaniards.
