The university's sports facilities are excellent, partly as a legacy of the 2002 Commonwealth Games. These are shared with the University of Manchester.

The Student Union is MMSU. They have a well-attended weekly dance night on a Friday called 'Double Vision' held in the union's K2 nightclub with music provided by DJs from Manchester's Key 103 radio station. The union magazine is called Pulp.
