Trivia

  • The character names "Brodie" and "Quint" are taken from the 1975 horror film Jaws; also, T.S. had planned to propose to Brandi at the point "when Jaws popped out of the water" on the Universal Studios tour.
  • The opening song to Mallrats, "Social," was the debut appearance of the band Squirtgun. One day while Squirtgun bassist and reknowned punk producer Mass Giorgini was at work co-producing a song for the Angus (co-starring George C. Scott and Kathy Bates) soundtrack with Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, they received a call from the producer of the Mallrats soundtrack looking for an fresh underground pop-punk band. Billie Joe Armstrong suggested his co-producer's own band, and the song eventually became the opening track to the film.
  • Jared Svenning was not originally bald. This was a decision Michael Rooker made while trying to dye his hair gray.
