Major League Soccer
This article refers to the current outdoor soccer league and should not be confused with the earlier indoor soccer league the Major Soccer League.

Major League Soccer (MLS) is the top soccer league in the United States in the American Soccer Pyramid, sanctioned by the professional division of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF or U.S. Soccer), a member of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

The quality of play in MLS has improved since the league was founded in 1996 and the success of the United States national team in the {{Wc|2002}}, reaching the quarterfinals for the first time since 1930, has been partly attributed to the experience gained by playing in MLS. Many of the members of the team at that World Cup were current or former MLS players.

Some MLS fans believe that MLS should be treated as one of the major professional sports leagues of North America, but this has yet to be accepted by the mainstream.
