Maggie May (musical)
Maggie May, a musical, opened at the Adelphi Theatre, London, on 22 September 1964 and played for 501 performances. It was written & scored by Lionel Bart with the libretto by the Liverpudlian playwright Alun Owen. The story was based on a traditional ballad about a Liverpool prostitute. Owen's book deals with trade union ethics & disputes and the life of a streetwalker, Margaret Mary Duffy, and her life after her sweetheart dies.
