Verdi substantially revised the opera in 1865 (First performance: Théâtre Lyrique, Paris, April 19, 1865). His version follows the Shakespeare play quite closely, but he makes an interesting change. Instead of using three witches as in the play, he creates a large female chorus of witches, singing in three part harmony.
