The M3 motorway links West London (junction 1 at Sunbury) to Southampton and the M27 (junction 14). It crosses the M25 at junction 2. There are 3 lanes in each direction for the majority of the length of the motorway. The motorway was built to relieve traffic from the old A30 and A33, the congested single carriageway trunk roads that traffic between the cities previously used.
