M. John Harrison
Michael John Harrison (born in Warwickshire July 26, 1945), also known by his initials MJH, is a UK writer, mainly of science fiction and fantasy.

He moved to London to became a student teacher during early 1960s and published his first story in 1966 ? but this he later disowned. He sold his first acknowledged story, the low-key "Baa Baa Blocksheep", to the science fiction magazine New Worlds in 1968. From 1968 to 1975 he was literary editor for the magazine.

A keen rock climber, he wrote the mainstream novel, Climbers (1989), the only work of fiction to ever win the Boardman Tasker Memorial Award.

In 1999, Harrison won the Richard Evans Award, created to honor genre fiction authors selected as "highly worthy but insufficiently recognized".

Harrison's books include several novels and collections including the Viriconium sequence. Under the pseudonym Gabriel King, he and Jane Johnson have written four books with feline heroes.
