Luis Donaldo Colosio

Luis Donaldo Colosio Murrieta (10 February 1950 – 23 March 1994) was a Mexican politician who was murdered during a stop on his presidential campaign.

Born into a family with a long political heritage in Magdalena de Kino, Sonora, Colosio Murrieta studied at the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, better known by its initials ITESM, after which he joined the PRI (1972). After that he went on to do postgraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania in the USA and research work at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Austria before returning to Mexico. In 1979 he joined the Ministry of Budget and Planning under future president Carlos Salinas.
