Lower Silesia (German Niederschlesien) was a province of Prussia which together with Upper Silesia (Oberschlesien) formed most of the historical region Silesia until the end of World War II. Silesia was ceded by Austria to Prussia in 1742, and in 1919 divided into Upper and Lower Silesia. The capital of Lower Silesia was Breslau (Wrocław). The province was further divided into two administrative regions (Regierungsbezirke), Breslau and Liegnitz.
