Louise Mountbatten


 

Her Majesty Queen Louise (Louise Alexandra Marie Irene) of Sweden (13 July, 1889 ? 7 March 1965) was the second wife of King Gustav VI Adolf of Sweden.

She was born "Her Serene Highness Princess Louise of Battenberg". Her father, Prince Louis of Battenberg, who was Admiral of the Fleet in the U.K., renounced all his German titles in 1917, during World War I, and furthermore anglicized his family name ("Battenberg") to "Mountbatten". He was then created the first Marquess of Milford Haven in the peerage of the United Kingdom. His daughter then came to be known as Lady Louise Mountbatten.

On November 3, 1923, Louise married His Royal Highness Oskar Fredrik Wilhelm Olaf Gustav Adolf, Duke of Scania, Crown Prince of Sweden, later King Gustav VI Adolf. The marriage was happy, but their only child was stillborn. Louise died on March 7, 1965.
