Los Alamos County, New Mexico
Los Alamos County is a county located in the state of New Mexico. As of 2000, the population is 18,343. The county was administered exclusively by the Federal government during the Manhattan Project, but is currently an "incorporated county" as a result of its previous Federal administration. The two population centers in the county, Los Alamos, New Mexico and White Rock, New Mexico are not incorporated independently but are commonly referred to as "townsites" or "communities". Many county offices are located at the townsite of Los Alamos, New Mexico which serves as the county seat6. The county is home to Los Alamos National Laboratory.
