London Borough of Richmond upon Thames

The borough consists almost entirely of suburban development but also hosts both domestic and international tourism with the attractions of Hampton Court Palace, Kew Gardens, Twickenham Stadium and the WWT London Wetlands Centre.

The borough is also home to Bushy Park and the National Physical Laboratory. It is the only London borough to straddle the Thames with districts on both sides of the river. There are over 100 parks and open spaces within its boundary and 21 miles of river frontage.

Most of the borough is connected to central London by the National Rail services of South West Trains. The London Underground has stations on the District Line at Richmond and Kew which are also served by Silverlink trains on the North London Line.

The borough was formed in 1965 by the merger of the municipal boroughs of Twickenham from Middlesex and Richmond upon Thames and Barnes from Surrey. It is twinned with Konstanz in Germany, Fontainebleau in France and Richmond, Virginia, USA.
