Lola (film)

Lola is a 1981 film directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. It is the third in his BRD trilogy, although the second is yet to be made. The other films are The Marriage Of Maria Braun (BRD 1) and Veronika Voss (BRD 2).

Plot

The film is set in 1955 in capitalist post-World War II West Germany. Shuckert is a local construction entrepreneur whose methods of gaining wealth include shady business practices such as bribing the local officials. His latest grand scheme is endangered with an arrival of Von Bohm, a new building commissioner who is faithful to traditional values. While Shuckert struggles to figure out Von Bohm's motive, Von Bohm gradually falls in love with beautiful woman named Lola. Both of them are attracted to each other and Von Bohm starts thinking of marriage. However, unbeknown to him, Lola earns for living as a cabaret singer/prostitute in a local brothel and most of Von Bohm's adversaries, including Shuckert, are her clients.
