List of characters from Family Guy

These are characters from the animated TV series Family Guy.

Griffin Family

  • Peter Griffin – Peter is a legally retarded man, who often gets into bad situations, which are only made worse as he tries to get out of them. He formerly worked as a production line worker at the Happy-Go-Lucky Toy Factory. Following its closure he became a fisherman. He has also previously been a jouster, Sheriff, cast member on The Electric Company, a ghostbuster, career soldier, member of Simon and Garfunkel (creative differences being what led to his stint as a career soldier in Vietnam), CEO, Death, one of the wonder twins, folk singer, mayor of "New Quohog" and Sandy Duncan's glass eye. Husband to Lois, father to Meg, Chris, and Stewie and technically the owner of Brian.
  • Lois Griffin – Born into the wealthy Pewterschmidt family, Lois gave up her inheritance in order to marry Peter. Lois teaches piano in order to supplement the family's income, though spends most her time caring for her family. Had sex with Gene Simmons, and it has been hinted at that she is very promiscuous. She married Brian when Peter was presumed lost at sea, in The Perfect Castaway. In Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story it was revealed that she was once a lesbian.
  • Megan "Meg" Griffin – Seventeen-year-old daughter of Peter and Lois (although, according to Brian, Meg's real father is a man named Stan Thompson). Meg spends her time worrying about fitting in with others her age at her school (James Woods Regional High School), and tries hard to find acceptance. She has a crush on Kevin Swanson and was born with a tail. Lost her virginity to Jimmy Fallon during a live episode of Saturday Night Live.
  • Christopher Cross "Chris" Griffin – Thirteen-year-old son of Peter and Lois. Not very intelligent, and overweight like his father, although he has a tremendous talent for drawing. He attends the Buddy Cianci Junior High School. He seems to be the only character dumber than his father. Once, Peter smacked him and said it was the lamp. Chris then tackled the lamp. Has a slouch, supposedly due to his enormous penis. He is the only child to never have another man suggested to be his father, which makes sense as he is very much a younger, blonder, version of Peter. He is legally married in South America.
  • Stewart Gilligan "Stewie" Griffin – One-year-old son of Peter and Lois. Stewie is an incredibly intelligent person, and harbors ambitions to take over the world, but more importantly to kill Lois. In the episode Mr. Griffin Goes to Washington, it is revealed Stewie's evil aspirations are due to the fact that Lois smoked pot while pregnant with him. However, thus far his plans have been foiled by those around him who don't take him seriously. Misunderstanding exists among fans whether or not anyone actually understands Stewie (the question is even brought up in the "E Peterbus Unum" episode), but MacFarlane revealed in commentary that he and his staff have decided to never set a rule about it, saying whether or not the other characters understand him will depend entirely upon what the writers feel like doing at the time. Stewie briefly attended the Quahog School of Performing Arts. Seth MacFarlane has implied that the character is based on Rex Harrison. Fans of the series speculate that Stewie may be a homosexual (in one episode, Stewie remarks, "I sometimes wonder if all women are this difficult. Then I think to myself, 'my God, wouldn't it be marvelous if I turned out to be a homosexual?'" There have also been other small suggestions that Stewie may be gay, such as a Gilbert and Sullivan-esque musical number where a naval crew tells Stewie he's "a world-class poof"). In an episode that was scrapped before making it past storyboard phase of production, MacFarlane said that Stewie was supposed to have admitted that he was gay. It should be noted that Stewie has fallen in love with a female on more than one occasion. Stewie was born with a map of Europe, with various countries earmarked for conquest and destruction. Kidnapped his babysitter's boyfriend out of jealousy.
  • Brian Griffin – The Griffin family's 7-year-old dog, hailing from a farm in Austin, Texas. Brian is unlike other dogs however in that he can talk (and unlike Stewie, there is no dispute that everyone can understand him). Despite the fact that no other dogs on the show appear to have the ability to speak, nobody ever seems to find Brian's gift of gab odd (save for one occasion when Peter exclaimed, "Holy crap, you can talk!", despite having known and spoken with Brian for several years by that point). Brian is intelligent and cultured, with a sharp wit. Peter is his best friend. Brian has some issues which have led him to see a psychiatrist, and he is also a borderline alcoholic and former cocaine addict.

Relatives

  • Francis Griffin – Peter's hardline Irish Catholic father. He began working for the Pope after becoming bored of retirement. He hates Lois because she isn't Catholic, even going so far as pinning a big sign on to her wedding car reading "Just Married: To A Protestant Whore." Although he seems gruff and strict on the exterior, Francis cares for Peter deep down. He attended his son's funeral, after Peter was believed to have died. Voiced by Colm Meaney and Charles Durning.
  • Mrs. Griffin – Wife to Francis and mother to Peter. Spends her time pretending to go on pilgrimages whilst she is really on gambling sprees. Lois and Peter have also made an escape pod for whenever she comes over.
  • Carter Pewterschmidt – Billionaire industrialist, and owner of US Steel. Husband to Barbara, father to Lois and Carol, and apparently a mulatto shoe-shine boy. Loathes Peter intensely.
  • Barbara Pewterschmidt – Wife to Carter, mother to Lois and Carol. Shares her husband's dislike of Peter.
  • Carol Pewterschmidt – Sister to Lois Griffin, daughter of Carter and Barbara. Carol has eight ex-husbands, one with which she had a baby son (names unknown).
  • Ted "Carol Pewterschmidt's husband" – Ex-husband to Carol Pewterschmidt who left her before their son was born.
  • Marguerite Pewterschmidt – Great Aunt to Lois Griffin who passed away in the episode Peter Peter Caviar Eater. (deceased)
  • Lillian Pewterschmidt – Great Aunt to Lois Griffin.
  • Seabreeze – Carter Pewterschmidt's champion greyhound, one time lover of Brian Griffin. Seabreeze had a litter of puppies originally thought to be Brian's children, but were actually fathered by Ted Turner as a character on the show.
  • Biscuit – Brian's mother. She died, and her owners had her stuffed and turned into a make-shift end table.
  • Coco – Brian's father, briefly mentioned by Chris in "Fast Times at Buddy Cianci Jr. High". He was hit by a milk truck. In "Don't Make Me Over", Brian blames his father for his bad habit of barking viciously at black people.
  • Bertram – Unborn son of Peter and Lois. He is currently only a sperm still residing within Peter. Voiced by Wallace Shawn.
  • Jasper – Brian's gay cousin, known for constantly telling dirty jokes. Self-described rice queen. He honks a horn at the end of the joke for a treat. Brian rooms with Jasper when he moves to Hollywood to direct porn movies. He teaches a dance class at Club Med.
  • Angus Griffin – Peter's Great Great Uncle, a Scot who invented golf. Apparently did not like blacks or jews. (deceased)
  • Osias Griffin – Peter's Great Grandfather. He owned one of the first dozen telephones. His phone number was "3". (deceased)
  • Thomas Griffin – Osias's Great Grandfather. He was an Irish philosopher. (deceased)
  • Huck Griffin – One of Peter's Ancestors, an obvious parody of Huckleberry Finn. He rafted the Mississippi with "N word Jim". (deceased).
  • Peter's Grandfather (unnamed) – Was among the men who created Bugs Bunny, but wanted the character to be named Ephraim the Retarded Rabbit. (deceased)
  • Nate Griffin – One of Peter's Ancestors. He was black, and was a slave of the Pewterschmidt family. He found a way to secretly get revenge on his masters by peeing in their cereal every morning. (deceased)
  • Rufus Griffin – Peter's distant cousin. He is an actor and appeared in the fictional blaxploitation film "Black to the Future" as Marty McSuperfly.
  • Ella Fitzgerald Griffin – Great aunt to Peter Griffin. Parody of jazz great Ella Fitzgerald. As a lounge singer, Ella worked with a young Ray Charles. Ella is responsible for blinding Ray Charles after sustaining a high note in a scat solo, which shattered the wine glass on Ray's piano, making the shards pierce Ray's eyes. (deceased)
  • Jabba the Griffin – An extremely obese relative of Peter's, an obvious parody of Jabba the Hutt. Jabba the Griffin speaks English in a pseudo-Huttese dialect.
  • Ulysses S. Griffin – A parody of Ulysses S. Grant who supposedly won the civil war in a beer chugging contest. Peter also has two Siamese great-uncles who were on opposite sides of the Civil War. One shot the other without realizing the consequences of a skeleton hanging off him. (deceased)
  • Juarez Griffin – One of Peter's Ancestors. He was of Latin American descent and about the size of a chicken. He took part in cockfights as an actual fighter in the ring.
  • Kathy Griffin – Peter's only famous relative.
  • The other Griffin girl – In the episode Let's Go To The Hop it is alluded that Peter and Lois gave birth to another girl, but Meg strangled her, according to Chris, to which his parents forcefully and unconvincingly yell at him that "It was a dream!"
  • Ponce de Leon Griffin – He found the fountain of youth, but he only became younger where the water touched him. Below the neck he turned into a baby, his head remained adult-size, the weight of which broke his neck when he exited the pool. (deceased)
  • King Arthur Griffin – A princess guaranteed she would make love to him on the spot if he could pull a sword from a stone; he suggested they make out if he could only move it a few inches. He was the most powerful Griffin in history until Peter arrived in South America with thirty-seven dollars.
  • Quark Griffin – Stewie's relative, obviously a parody of Quark from Star Trek.
