The following is a partial list of adaptations of Shakespearean plays, and includes more literal adaptations as well as works where Shakespeare was obviously an inspiration:

- The play Hobson's Choice (1915) by Harold Brighouse
- The film King Lear (1953) Directed by Andrew McCullough with Orson Welles as Lear.
- The film King Lear (1969) Directed by Grigori Kozintsev with Jüri Järvet as Lear and score by Dmitri Shostakovich
- The play Lear (1971) by Edward Bond
- The film King Lear (1982) directed by Jonathan Miller with Michael Hordern as Lear. Part of the BBC Shakespeare Plays series.
- The film King Lear (1984), directed by Michael Elliott with Laurence Olivier as Lear.
- The film Ran (1985) directed by Akira Kurosawa
- The film King Lear (1987) directed by Jean-Luc Godard with Burgess Meredith as gangster Don Learo and Molly Ringwald as Cordelia.
- The novel A Thousand Acres (1991) by Jane Smiley, which was also adapted into a film (1997) of the same name.
- The film King Lear (1997), directed by Richard Eyre with Ian Holm as Lear
- The film King Lear (1999), directed by Brian Blessed
